  • Recommend Me A Sponge Filter!

So tired of this HOB making loud grindy noises because it's angry (it's pretty much done that since day 5 unfortunately) on my 29g. Unfortunately all my cycle is on that silly little piece of biobag that already has the carbon removed from it, so I can't just take the filter off at this time. Plus, I like having dual filters of some sort on my tanks for extra filtration.

Sponge filters. Great for biological filtration, which is pretty much what I need. Quiet if you don't mind the sound of bubbles. Sounds like a plan.

I currently have one made by Deep Blue in the 55g. It's huge, it's ugly, and it was difficult to work with because it just wouldn't stay on the bottom.

    Sooooooo...any recommendations?

    I got this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

One for my 20 long, one for the 10, and a smaller version (rated up to 7 gallons) for a 5.5 gallon tank. No complaints so far! I definitely don't have any problems keeping it down, the weight in the base seems plenty heavy. Well, I guess I do have one complaint, and that is that the one rated for "up to 20 gallons," that says it can be used in a 10 gallon tank, is WAY too tall to fit in a 10 gallon tank. I'll just cut the sponge in half and it'll all be good though.

I like that they're gray/black, so if you have a black background (like I do), it's easy to hide behind plants, and if a little bit shows through it's not that noticeable.

And I can't argue with the price!

I actually just found this one while looking around on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Bioch...+filter+sponge

Really couldn't pass that up. 3 bucks total? Yeah, it's going to take forever to get here, but still. It's rated for up to 30g, and I really just wanted it for extra biological, so it's perfect!

          I love these : http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...fm?pcatid=3954

I use #5 because they go out of the way in the corner. You can see one in action here, the riser is adjustable and fully extended in the pictures:
