  • Moonlights

My light fixture came with 3 LED moonlights and I have never used them.

Anyone else use moonlights in their tanks? pros/cons in using them?

I use them . They are great for saltwater tanks. I wouldn't run them with your other lights. Instead run them at night for a couple of hours if you want to look at your tank. I think I read somewhere that moonlights help algae grow when combined with daylights.

      Re: Moonlights

I have moonlights on my high tech tank. And love them! I have them set to turn on when the main lights go off. And the timer shuts them off at 1 AM.

If your moonlights are standard LED, the wattage is too low to cause a negative impact on the tank.

That should work. Make sure to set the timer so that the tank goes completely dark for several hours as well.

            Re: Moonlights

I have wanted some so that I can see some of my tanks at night but none yet. I agree that used for some time in the evening to be able to still see what is going on is a great use, you can also use them to view your more noctournal fish.

I have also seen the use of having them come on about an hour before regular light to give the fish an "easier" wakeup.

My timer doesn't work that way, darn. When the daylights turn off then the night switch stays on until the day switches are back on again.
