  • Seachem Iron Test kit

I have a Seachem Iron test kit that I haven't used nor do I dose my tank with Iron ferts (hoping that a dirted bottom is all the ferts needed) and wondering where should my Iron levels be for a planted tank? Btw my plants do not show iron deficiency.

Just tested my tank for Iron...turns out that I don't have any trace of Iron in my tank. The test water didn't change colors after 5 minutes, now waiting for 45 minutes for chelated iron.

Would dosing my tank with API Leaf zone be a good iron supplement?

I have a lot of Anubias in the tank they require Iron rich ferts.

Edit: Can someone put this in the Plant fertilizer section

Target range is 0.5 to 1.0 ppm iron.

Yes LeafZone would be a good supplement as it is an iron/potassium supplement.

Once your plants display symptoms of deficiency it is much harder to overcome!

So long as a couple of hours pass, you should be able to retest.

Hard to say, but it could be a slight amount of measurable iron.

I recommend continuing the dosing on micro days and then measure again at the end of a week. If your plants have been deprived of iron they will quickly consume it for a short time.

When it comes to ferts I'm completely ignorant:

                      Micros- Flourish Comprehensive?

I haven't really dose this tank with anything, I was relying on the dirted bottom theory. The only thing I've dose this tank is with Flourish Excel, Nitrogen (just recently due to my nitrates being 0), and API Leaf Zone.

                        OK, sorry.

Excel should be dosed daily as directed. Use the loading dose on water change day.

While the fert products you are using are not strictly micro or macro, there is the potential for iron to bind with other compounds and become unusable for plants. With this in mind, I would not dose Leaf Zone on the same day as you are dosing the Flourish Nitrogen or Comprehensive, if you decide to use it too.
