  • Flowering Hygrophila

    My Hygrophila sp. 'Araguaia' decided to send out a flower!! It was a very pretty flower indeed . Figured I'd share. Here are pictures of the bud. I still need to fix the flower pictures.

            Forgot to post a picture of an open flower! Oops. I've had almost a dozen flowers so far! Sorry for the terrible picture. They are difficult to focus on. Kinda a blueish purple color.

                What a gorgeous flower, I love the colour, although in saying that my basic understanding of how light works ;leads me to believe that the flower is every colour but Lilac. This is so because every other colour is absorbed and the lilac is reflected.

                I'm gonna give myself a warning for going too far off topic to save you guys the trouble.

                Again, very impressive photos, stunning.

                      So does hygrophila only grow flowers if it's out of the water? That would explain why mine is doing so well but hasn't flowered since I bought it It must have been grown emersed originally because it had flowers when I bought it.

                        Most plants sold in the trade are grown emerse in the beginning, they grow faster that way. I know crypts flower emerse but never seen one flower submerse before.
