  • cleaning new plants

I got some hornwort from petsmart today; however, there is the possibility of snails. I'm not worried about the 55, but the 10 they would take over. So what should I clean them with to get rid of hitchhikers?

You can just QT them in a rubbermaid container for a couple days outside. Just make sure to put a syran wrap to cover the container.

    Check daily for hitch hikers.

I think if you use a weak bleach solution to dip the plants in, it should get rid of any snails in there.

I use 1/4 table spoon of alum per gallon of water.
        It will also destroy eggs.
It can be found on the spice section of most grocery stores.

I like snails so my vote is to just put it in the tank lol but I would do what Oscar says
          2.5g Betta tank (Rayne)
          2.5g Apple Snail tank (Silver)
1.5g Saltwater MTS vase (tough little dudes)
40g red ear slider tank (Kappa)

They had a big happy goldfish in there and when I asked she said snail control. Do I have to worry about my fishies catching the crud from their fish? He looked fat and happy.

I would use the alum or a hydrogen peroxide bath. Bleach might kill hornwort.

That's the reason I use alum, it does not affect the plants.

Lesson learned. I will keep that in mind if I need to clean plants.
