  • Anubias Experiment: Seed Pods

I just pulled two Anubias out of my main tank because I notice both have a flower stalk. I am going to try to have both flowers turn into a seed pod so I can collect the seeds and germinate them. I pulled the two because I read that they need to be crossed pollinated when they bloom. I just hope that the two Anubias are of the same variety.

Now both plants are in my DSM tank.

I just hope the Anubias doesn't wilt along with the flower stalks switching to emerse growing.

So long as you keep it humid as possible the risk of it should minimize... not saying it won't because you may get some wilting...

I will be misting the tank to make a slow transition for the Anubias to emerse. It would be great if I can get them to seed.

One of the flowers blossom today and I'm waiting for the other flower to blossom on the other Anubias. I am hoping they blossom at the same time so I can cross polinate.

I've read that Anubias flowers last for three days in submerse setups does anyone know how long they last in emerse setups?

Can't say in emersed, but submersed they last for several days if not a couple of weeks. Odds are you have more rime than you realize.

That is great news then I read incorrectly. Thanks a bunch. Now, I'm extremely excited. This is the first time I've ever had an Anubias that flowered on me.

I believe they last more than a week emersed.

The one I mailed has a flower. Hopefully it will open for you.

I noticed the flower stock yesterday and pretty excited about it. The plants are currently in a bucket and will be placed tonight.

Do you propagate your Anubias on a regular basis?
