  • Stocking rule for Corydoras?

Does anyone know the stocking rule for Corydoras?

    How many Corydoras per gallon?

    How about the dwarf varieties?

    Re: Stocking rule for Corydoras?

It really depends on which one.

Some dwarf varieties can be housed in 10G; "standard" sized in 20G. But if you were looking at the Emerald Greens, they get huge and need much more space.

I am looking into a Corydoras only tank, these are the species I'm looking in having:

      Corydoras duplicareus
      Corydoras Adolfi
      Corydoras Orange Laser
      Corydoras Sterbai

I agree tank size will be a HUGE factor for this.

Actually I would almost build a tank to suit them or use a 40 breeder.

I have to agree with Jim here. For a cory only tank you want it wide, long, and shallow. I'd go with a 55g if you bought it from a store.

I feel a DIY plywood tank build coming .

I was thinking more along the acrylic lines myself, something say 48 by 24-36 by 8-12 with a smaller lip around the whole thing for support.

              48x24x8 is about 40gal
              48x36x8 is about 60gal
              48x24x12 is about 60gal
              48x36x12 is about 90gal

Acrylic is nice but it is difficult to work with IMO. Scratches easily and usually you need a special glue. Plywood is easy. But you'd still need a pane of glass for the front. Plenty easy to attach though.

very true the acrylic does scratch easy but I dont think it is that hard to work with, just leave the film on it. Or do it in glass, with that little side wall not much if any bracing other than the top would really be needed.

                        Re: Stocking rule for Corydoras?

Filtration would be an AquaTop CF-400
Tank Size would either be a 55g or 33g (if I find that one).

How many Cories can I keep?

I think I have 15 in one of my 55's. They have plenty of room. I think that is a safe number.

If it is a Cory only tank then you could have 20-30 IMO.

For a species only tank of Corydoras? 15 is the max?

                              Edit...nevermind Jonathan answered it.

Are they huge waste producers? or low bioload?
