  • Spring is in the air!!

Well, either it is officially spring in my tanks or there is something in the water. In the past 24 hours I have had 3 pairs of angels spawn!!!

Yesterday's pairing was a Blue Smokey Pearlscale and a Smokey Pinoy Pearlscale. As they chose an Amazon Sword leaf, I cut the leaf and dropped it into a cup of water to see if the eggs are viable. It has been 24 hours and most seem to be ok. Not white, but also no sign of development. It will be interesting to see what happens with these eggs tomorrow. If they look good, then I'll set up the hatching jar.

This afternoon it was my Red Capped Koi and Blue Silver who spawned. These two have been fighting so much I was caught off guard. If/When their eggs hatch I will be moving them. I still have the 10 survivors from their last successful spawn and would LOVE to have more!

And tonight I looked over and saw a pair of Blue Smokeys with their tubes out. But the plecos are also working over the anubias nana plant that they like to spawn on. No idea with the plecos got the eggs or if they have yet to spawn. As they check out a leaf and seem fairly calm my guess is that they have not yet spawned. Hard to tell.

Well, the first spawn I pulled was a bust. Eggs are not developing. Red Capped Koi and Blue Smokey are with their eggs. And the other smokeys last night I have no idea. No eggs this morning. So the plecos must have gotten to them.

Now I really want to save that koi spawn!!

Ah shocks. All in good time, all in good time!

Maybe the Koi will be more promising.

Came home from work yesterday to find couple #3 spawned on the intake tube. And was eaten later that night.

And the koi spawn hatched. The parents must be psychic too because they put the wrigglers on the intake tube instead of using the plant they have always used. I had planned on moving the wrigglers to another tank to make sure they weren't eaten. Now I can't ...lol
