  • Redheaded Koi Issue...

So I picked up a Large female redheaded koi BUT as we all know fish are stressed at the stores and not always their brightest... well it was Orange not a real bright orange But Orange none the less.... BUT when they were trying to get it out it turned Yellow... and next to no color but a pale pale yellow to the point it was as white as its body...

Well its back to yellow when they were trying to get it out of the tank... I've never seen a redheaded koi do this... So I'm wondering will it turn back to Orange and get like my other koi's or is it possible that it will just stay yellow?

I think she is still stressed... I say give her a.few day to get use to the tank... But I'll leave this to the knowledge of Dena... Though I will say I kind of like her yellows

Koi angels can range from a light lemon yellow to a deep orange red tone. If she was orange before losing her color, she is most likely stressed. Feed her high quality foods, maybe even do an extra water change to help her settle into your tank. I would expect her normal color to return in about a week.

That's an interesting change! Never would have tagged her as a Red Capped Koi from those pictures. Hopefully she gets her color back soon.

I like the way you are using your new app to point out the fish with the problem . Didn't you just add a fish that was a bully and had to return it? That might have been a trigger for the stress.

I get the feeling she is not going to get anymore orange than what she is now... Now she looks like how she was at the store and you can now see the orange in her dorsal fin and the rest of her head is that lemon yellow color....

Still think she will turn orange or is this a lemon yellow koi sold as a redheaded koi?
(For the record I didn't know about lemon yellow koi's until last night)

See how your orange koi has a white / clear dorsal and pink blush on the gills? And your new one has the orange-gold bands in the dorsal and does not have a blush?

This tells me the new angel is not koi, but instead is a Gold Marble Ghost. This is something that is often confused between the two phenotypes.
