  • new pleco for my tank

I'm sure if I dug around my question would be answered, but I'm lazy this am. Can I keep 2 bn's in my 55, Or is it better to just go with one? I've been waffling on the type of pleco: clown vs bn or another type. I want one that we can see every now and then; the bn is one vote up on the clown. Suggestions please?

    Thank you,
    Robin

You'll never see a clown in a 55. I hardly even see mine in my 20 long lol however, should get the opposite sex of a BN, you'd be drowning in fry once they start breeding.

Single Bristlenose wound be my choice. I've got one in my 55g and he's always out and about. Though I've never kept any others, so can't comment on the Clown.

I would get a single albino BN, but perhaps I'm biased

I'll look up the albino; Pj will be very pleased at the consensus so far.
          How ya doing Bruce?
My ph is 8-8.2 and my nitrates run 20+ at the moment ( 10 already in tap water) will he/she tolerate that enviroment?

My clown pleco will be here soon from Jon but my brother owns a bn and he is a busy bee in his 65. I say get the one bn or find 2 females as males will kill eachother... And from what I have heard clowns are good at hiding so you'll never see it on that big of a tank...

I got a baby BN on Monday; he's an inch long at best and has vivid stripes. Also picked up an albino corey friend for kitty. Both are in quarantine.

I like rubberlip plecos personally. I'd get a small group. Great algae eaters if I remember correctly.

LOL didnt' see your last post. Oops

That's okay I still have planning for the happy tank. You can keep more than 1 rubberlip? I need somebody for the tank with the barbs. The bn is so tiny, he/she will be in the 10 for awhile after qt

BN will grow fast. Usually in the 2-3 inch range you can sex them. I bought 2 for my 90G. Ended up with a male/female pair. My angels eat their fry so it isn't an issue. Plus with no dark caves I no longer see fry. They come out in the morning at feeding time and again when the lights dim at night. Busy bees!
