  • 55 gallon stocking

My sister wants to upgrade from a 25 gallon to 55 gallon (knew it was going to happen). The great thing about this is I have all stuff except the stand for her. Sometimes it pays to be a fish tank hoarder.

    She wants Angels

    Propose stocking
    2 Angels
    6 Serpae (have)
    4 Platies

I'd add some bottom dwellers too. Maybe come cories?

I suggested that and she's thinking about it. Can she put 4 Angels with the stock above?

Btw the Angels will be from my tank.

I don't think Serpae's are a good mix with angels. They are mean buggers. I think they would tear the Angels up.

Yeah, you could add 4 angels. But it may be a bit crowded at the top of the tank with serpaes and platys.

I'd personally do just 2 Angels with some other tankmates. Ive got my Angel pair in my 55g with Corys, Bolivian Ram pair, Cardinals, Black Neons, Gold Tetras and a BN.

Not sure about the Serpae tetras with the Angels.

I agree, Serpaes are not good tankmates for angelfish.

Black Neons and Diamond Tetras are great tankmates for Angels. I had them before I moved along with some albino corries and some platies.

I also agree that serpaes and angles are not a good mix, now I had my serpaes with my rainbow fish and they got along fine. The rest of the stock looks ok but I also wouldnt do 4 angels in a 55

                  New Stocking:

                  2 Angels (from me)
                  4 Platies
                  8 Corydoras adolfoi
6 Tetras (she doesn't know which one)

Her Serpaes are staying in the 25g tank.

I like it. I might even say you could pull off two smaller tetra schools or one large school of small tetras

smaller tetra meaning the more torpeado body shapped ones.

I'm thinking of giving her my Neon/Cardinal now because I'm such a great brother

Depending on the colors I usually love the cardinals and or neons with angels I think they look great but can become lunch if not careful.

I agree it sounds pretty understocked. I love the neons in my tank, the blue stripe looks great under fluorescent lights. If you're doing fewer schools, I'd do 8 at least, so they're bigger.

It will no longer be a 55g but a 75gallon tank. At least I don't have to give my 55g anymore
