  • What is wrong: Weird guppy colorings

Lately I have been noticing my Japanese blue swordtail guppies developing some weird colors. About 75% of my males have orange streaks on their bodies and tiger like markings on their tails. Is this normal? There's no way there could have been cross breeding because they are away from other livebearers.

Maybe the different colouring could be due to diet/environment? Pictures would help

I've not kept guppies for so many years and that was back before I knew what I was doing so can't offer much help sorry. But still would like to see some pictures

Perhaps your stock is developing a mutation and the more they breed with each, the mutated genes are being carried on to the offsprings.

How many generations have you had?

Here's a picture. Sorry it is so blurry. They just zoom around the tank so quick it's hard to get a clear picture.

I have maybe... 3 generations? The third is just fry yet. I may have to pick out my best male and try to selectively breed him with a young female.

Eh. I've had these things for over a year now. Maybe it's time to sell them all off and get a different variety.

They do look pretty I don't know their true name but have you seen the red really long finned guppys? They are so pretty

Full red guppies. Yes, they are very pretty! My next variety will definitely be long finned. These just seem boring to me. I want to get some ATFG guppies. They are absolutely stunning but cost upwards of $50-75 a pair!

                      Mine aren't very fancy. Lol

A friend of mine has some Hawaiian cobalt blue Moscows (say that 10x fast) that are beautiful. Let me see if I can find a picture.

Inbreeding does cause random colors to show up. Especially in guppies. I'm not surprised you're seeing a change.
