  • Oddball sized tank?

My "55" gallon tank is actually 48.25x13x18, and comes out to 48.6 gallons. The closest I can find to this is a 45 long, but even then the dimensions don't match up. Thoughts??

Are you measuring the inside ot the outside of the tank?

Outside. All the charts I can find online show outside dimensions, and are all accurate to each other.

are you sure you have an accurate tape measure? Double check another tank real quick just to be certain, I have seen some of the made in Taiwan types be way off on occasion.

If not I think is the closest that there is to that, as far as a standard tank goes but I have seen other tanks that are out of whack that were custom jobs somewhere along the way.

It is not uncommon to sell a ~50+ gallon tank as a 55G.

My mom is in the construction business. She doesn't buy cheap tape measures

Its not custom, as far as I can tell, unless he (the original owner) took the rims off, cut it down, and put the rims back on.

It doesn't even look like a 55 though. It looks way off lol Its so noticeably shorter that my even my mom noticed.

That is weird. Do you have pic of the tank? I have seen a 50G that measured very similar to that

I don't. It looks like a stubby 55. It's got the length and width, but not the height. On all of the websites I've been on that have dimension charts, none of them have shown a 50 with that length.

33 long is the same length and width of a 55 just shorter.

But a 33 long doesn't come out to 48 gallons....

Here's a link to ONLY place I found the dimensions of a 45 long. Last one, 4th section.

Besides that, it's a nice long list

a 33 long is 4x1x1 I have one, it could have been a custom order tank from someone somewhere along the way.

The only reason I asked about the tape measure is I happened to see it recently when a guy was measuring stuff and none of it was working, until we looked at the tape vs a better one and it was WAY off.

I've just given up on trying to figure it out lol it's only shorting me a few gallons, and I'm going to have a 20 gallon sump eventually.

Get yourself a gallon jug. And count how many it takes to fill up the tank.

Well math doesn't lie. The measurements come out to 48.6 gallons. It's just that the foot print is not like any 50 gallon I've ever seen, or can find on line. It's the same as a 55 gallon, but 3 or 4 inches shorter. 55s are supposed to be 21 inches tall, and this one is 18 or whatever. It's just weird lol
