  • Angels laid eggs!

Well my gold female and DD black male finally laid eggs. They had been showing spawning behavior for about a week now.

I'm still trying to decide how I want to try to hatch them. I can't leave them with the parents cause they are in a community tank.

Here's a pic of the proud parents protecting and fanning the eggs.

      Angels laid eggs!

      Thanks!

I've decided to put them in a cycled 10g I have with a small airstone and some methylene blue to try to hatch them.

            Angels laid eggs!

That's what I thought! There may have been more too. I saw them when I got home from school this evening. The parents were guarding them pretty good though so I don't think anything got at them.

              Are you doing parent raising?

Not this time. I didn't have a good tank set up for them. And I figured if I would have moved them over to a different tank they probably would have ate the eggs from stress.

I'm gonna set up a 20g for them next.

Does anyone know what the offspring might look like?

That is a silly question. They will look like miniature Angels

What will the offspring look like?

Well, you know the black is a double dark. So, he has 2 Dark genes, which are dominant. And the gold has 2 Gold genes, which are recessive. There is also a possibility of hidden recessive genes, but there is no way to know.

                          Genetically you know:

                          Black Angel is D/D
                          Gold Angel is g/g

As each parent donates one gene. The offspring will inherit one Dark gene and one gold gene. As recessive genes need 2 to display that trait, or phenotype, the Dark gene will take over and hide the recessive gold gene. Therefore, you can expect all offspring to be Hybrid Black as they would be genetically D/g.

                          Hope that helps!

                            Thanks Dena!

No new news on the eggs. There are a couple white ones but they aren't spreading due to the methylene blue. I'm expecting them to hatch sometime tonight/tomorrow morning.

Ok scratch that.... Lol. I just went down to feed all the fish and most of them hatched already! That was fast. They hadn't even begun to hatch this morning when I checked on them.

When should I be doing the first watcher change on them?
