  • 100g Dirted Tank Journey

Here is my journey with my 100g Dirted Tank...might I say, this is my first "big" fish tank that I have ever owned by myself. Also, this is my first "dirted" tank I ever started.

My whole process was, dirt it, cap it, plant it, fill w/treated water, transfer fish all in the same day..big no no. I was doing daily WCs and poking the substrate for the next three weeks because of hydrogen sulfide gas build up due to the dirted substrate...(always cycle your dirt first). After I was free and clear of the "potential toxic gas build up" I started developing algae (BBA) due to have the lights (2x54watt, 10k daylight) and lack of CO2. Anything that could of gone wrong did go wrong with this journey. However, it was an amazing Journey to be on. I have learned a lot about lighting, CO2 supplementation, and plants. Now, my tank is at a happy balance....

    Now my stats are:
    Photoperiod: 6hrs
    Light: 2x54watt, 6700, 48inch
Treatment: Daily dosing of 10mL of Flourish Excel
    Temp: 80 degrees
    WC: Weekly

Your tank is coming together quite nicely. I never realized this was a fairly new tank. You have done a great job in a short time!

          Amazing transformation!

            Re: 100g Dirted Tank Journey

It was an upgrade from a 56g (fish and plants). I had to tear down the 56g and set up the 100g all in the same day.

You'll know when you are ready for injected CO2.

              Your tank is amazing!

                            It gets addicting.

I am finally complete in planting this tank. It is time to move on the next tank.
