Well, it looks like I have pushed the planted tank too far!!

Ran out of CO2 a couple of weeks ago. Been using Excel temporarily.
Greatly reduced ferts with the lower carbon levels
Cut back on the lighting to attempt to keep everything in balance

Then, Wednesday after work I decided to start up the new Rena XP4 filter. Transferred most of the media as I didn't want to remove everything from the Rena XP3 as it went on the 125G.

And today, I come home from work to this.....

Fish hanging around the surface. Cories are motionless! And the water is cloudy!

    Bacterial Bloom in progress....ugh.

Brought in the new CO2 bottle and will get it connected in the morning so I can monitor it. I'd better get that water change done tonight. But will first run the parameters.

Sorry. I hope it clears up soon. UV filters get rid of bacterial blooms pretty quick I think.

Surprisingly, the test results were not as bad as I was expecting!!

pH: 7.0 (no surprise as this is the result with Excel)
      NH3: 0.25
      NO2: 0
      NO3: barely 5
      PO4: 0.5
      dGH: 4
      dKH: 4
Fe: Trace, and I dosed micros this morning!!

Did a 20% water change to be safe!

I did. Haven't had time to set it up. Will be done in the morning!

Does Excel affect pH? Lowers or Raises it?

Your tank still looks heavenly though!

Excel does not affect pH at all. That is my natural pH level. Once I crank up the CO2 I need to aim for 6.0 as this is the point where I'd have 30 ppm.

Also my water parameters will begin to change again soon. The municipal water supply will become mostly spring water and the hardness will drop. I will have to monitor closely to know when to add Epsom Salt and when to add Calcium Carbonate. With having to run my tank around 6.0 it can be difficult to know if my tank crashes.

I'm glad my water only comes from 1 source. Nice and steady 8.4 pH lol

How's the tank doing? Did you get the co2 back up?

Yes, set up the CO2 tank. Been messing around with it all day too! I am going to have to disconnect everything and try it again. There is a small leak somewhere and I think the diffuser is plugged up now too. I've never cleaned it, so it is probably well overdue!

Tank is clearing up. Going to do another water change tonight. Ammonia is gone. It was only a bacterial bloom while the new filter caught up to the cycle requirements.

Hah, I got ready to remove the plants for shipment. And, discovered my Blue Smokey pair was spawning on the lower leaves of the anubias plant. So, I had to let them finish before I disturbed them too much. Plant is now removed and boxed up for shipment and the lower leaves pruned off so I can attempt to hatch and raise them myself. Fingers crossed!

And, now I am seeing some areas with GSA again. So, will be focusing on balancing the ferts again.

Oh, and in cleaning up my room, I discovered the top insert to the Rena XP filter. Assumed it went to the one waiting to go on to the 125G. Opened it up today, and it already had the insert. Haha, I am running the XP4 without the top plate. Probably not circulating the water through the filter like it should be. I'll have to take care of that soon. But, tonight I still need to clean the smaller tanks with the angel juvies and now set something up to hatch the angel eggs.

I would of never known that it doesn't take much for GSA to reappear in ones' tank.
